A. whereas EU cohesion policy has contributed greatly to the increased productivity achieved by all regions of the Union during the previous and current funding periods; whereas it is striking that ex-post evaluations have also shown a significant reduction of economic, social and regional disparities; whereas these developments are having equally positive effects on social security and on investment in environmental protection,

5. onderstreept dat het economische concurrentievermogen van de regio's van de EU nauw samenhangt met de aanwezigheid van genoeg werk, goed opgeleide en bekwame arbeidskrachten, sociale zekerheid en beschikbaarheid van openbare diensten; stelt in dit opzicht vast dat de bijdrage van het cohesiebeleid tot de sociale samenhang het belang van dit beleid vergroot voor wat betreft het totale regionale concurrentievermogen op wereldniveau;
