Believes that there should be a clear, coherent and open engagement of the EU and the Member States, with consultation and contribution of local and regional authorities, at the International Standards Organisation (ISO) regarding the development of new standards for sustainable urban development, respecting the work on UN universal guidelines for urban and territorial planning; stresses that the new ISO standards should be seen as a supportive and not a normative tool;

The EU urges the Government of Sudan and the Darfur rebel movements to show restraint in the current situation, to commit themselves to an immediate cessation of hostilities, to facilitate the continued deployment and the full implementation of the mandate of UNAMID as well as the efforts of the humanitarian organisations, vital for the survival of millions of civilians in Darfur, and to promote regional stability including through continued normalisation of relations between Sudan and Chad.
