«Relatief biologisch effect» (R.B.E.) komt overeen met de verhouding tussen een dosis röntgenstralen, welke als referentiegrootheid wordt beschouwd, en een dosis ioniserende straling, welke hetzelfde biologische effect teweegbrengt.
"Relative biological effectiveness" (RBE) : the ratio of a dose of X-rays taken as reference to the dose of the ionising radiation in question which produces the same biological effect.
