Het eerste aan veiligheid gewijde publiek-private rondetafelgesprek op hoog niveau tussen de EU en de overheidssector en vertegenwoordigers van de particuliere sector in de lidstaten had plaats in februari 2011.

Hiertoe werd voorgesteld om regelmatig (jaarlijks) een publiek-privaat rondetafelgesprek op hoog niveau te houden waarbij EU-instellingen en -organen, de lidstaten en de particuliere sector van gedachten kunnen wisselen over de beste manieren om vorderingen te maken met de prioriteiten van de interneveiligheidsstrategie.

36. is zeer verontrust over de recente ontwikkelingen in de media en over het feit dat media-eigendom nog steeds ondoorzichtig en sterk geconcentreerd is; vraagt het land zich zonder voorbehoud te committeren aan mediavrijheid en pluralisme en te zorgen voor een deskundig en pluralistisch debat over de in het voortgangsverslag genoemde hervormingskwesties; is ingenomen met de uitnodiging van de OVSE-vertegenwoordiger voor een discussie over mediavrijheid, die plaats zal vinden in het kader van het rondetafelgesprek over mediavrijheid, en sluit zich aan bij haar stelling dat alle mediaorganen weliswaar moeten voldoen aan de juridische en financiële regels voor het verrichten van economische activiteiten, maar dat justitie zich niet specifiek mag richten op media die kritisch tegenover een bepaalde partij staan; dringt er bij de autoriteiten op aan de rechtsstaat en de mediavrijheid in het land te garanderen en zo de beoordeling van de Commissie in de toekomst positief te houden;
36. Is deeply concerned about recent developments in the media and the fact that media ownership remains opaque and highly concentrated; urges the country to demonstrate an absolute commitment to media freedoms and pluralism, including informed and pluralistic debate about the reform issues identified in the Progress Report; welcomes the invitation to the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media to take part in the newly established Round Table on freedom of the media and endorses her statement that, while all the media outlets must comply with the legal and financial rules for doing business, media critical to one party must not be particularly targeted by the legal system; urges the authorities to ensure respect for the rule of law and media freedom in the country and thereby ensure that the Commission’s assessment remains positive in the future;

36. is zeer verontrust over de recente ontwikkelingen in de media en over het feit dat media-eigendom nog steeds ondoorzichtig en sterk geconcentreerd is; vraagt het land zich zonder voorbehoud te committeren aan mediavrijheid en pluralisme en te zorgen voor een deskundig en pluralistisch debat over de in het voortgangsverslag genoemde hervormingskwesties; is ingenomen met de uitnodiging van de OVSE-vertegenwoordiger voor een discussie over mediavrijheid, die plaats zal vinden in het kader van het rondetafelgesprek over mediavrijheid, en sluit zich aan bij haar stelling dat alle mediaorganen weliswaar moeten voldoen aan de juridische en financiële regels voor het verrichten van economische activiteiten, maar dat justitie zich niet specifiek mag richten op media die kritisch tegenover een bepaalde partij staan; dringt er bij de autoriteiten op aan de rechtsstaat en de mediavrijheid in het land te garanderen en zo de beoordeling van de Commissie in de toekomst positief te houden;

Tijdens de conferentie organiseerde de EP-delegatie een rondetafelgesprek met parlementariërs, nam deel aan talloze bijeenkomsten op hoog niveau met andere delegaties en organisaties uit het maatschappelijk middenveld, en onderhield dagelijks de banden met de Europese Commissie en de Raad.
At the Conference the EP delegation organised a Round-Table of parliamentarians, participated in numerous high-level meetings with other delegations and organisations of civil society and liaised daily with the European Commission and the Council.
