– gezien de resultaten van de raadpleging die door Save the Children en Plan International is gehouden over de hoger vermelde mededeling van de Commissie, getiteld "Naar een EU-strategie voor de rechten van het kind" ,
– having regard to the results of the consultation conducted by Save the Children and Plan International on the above-mentioned Commission Communication entitled "Towards an EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child" ,

40. ziet met belangstelling uit naar de publicatie, vanaf 2008, van de studie van de Commissie over het effect van bestaande EU-acties die van invloed zijn op de rechten van het kind, en van een gedetailleerd discussiestuk van de Commissie dat de belangrijke prioriteiten moet definiëren van een toekomstige taak van de EU op het gebied van de rechten van het kind, met het oog op de goedkeuring van een Witboek; vraagt de Commissie rekening te houden met de resultaten van de hoger vermelde raadpleging die begin 2007 door Save the Children en Plan International is gehouden onder een duizendtal kinderen, waaruit naar voren is gekomen dat zij de volgende onderwerpen het belangrijkst vinden: tegen hen gebruikt geweld, discriminatie, maatschappelijke uitsluiting en racisme, de gevolgen van drugsgebruik, alcohol en nicotinevergiftiging, prostitutie en mensenhandel en milieubescherming; is van oordeel dat naast deze specifieke, prioritaire kwesties het recht van kinderen op participatie en beïnvloeding het algemene doel van de strategie moet zijn; verzoekt de Commissie dan ook een proces op gang te brengen waarbij alle belanghebbenden, ook kinderen, kunnen deelnemen aan de raadpleging met het oog op de bepaling van een strategie van de EU inzake de rechten van het kind;
40. Awaits with interest the publication by the Commission in 2008 of its study assessing the impact of existing EU actions affecting children's rights and a consultation document aimed at establishing the main priorities of the EU's future action in the field of children's rights, with the goal of adopting a White Paper; calls on the Commission to take account of the results of the above-mentioned consultation carried at the beginning of 2007 out by Save the Children and Plan International among some one thousand children, which showed that the priority issues, in their view, are violence against children, discrimination, social exclusion and racism, the effects of drugs, alcohol and smoking, prostitution, child trafficking and environmental protection; believes that, in addition to these specific priority issues, children's rights to participation and influence must be the comprehensive goal of the strategy; therefore calls on the Commission to develop a process in which all stakeholders involved, including children, are able to take part in the consultation leading up to the definition of the EU strategy on the rights of the child;
