Ten derde heeft de Commissie in april 2011 een verslag over de sociaal­economische gevolgen van genetisch gemodificeerde gewassen gepubliceerd, gebaseerd op bijdragen van de lidstaten, waarom in de conclusies van de Milieuraad van 2008 was verzocht.

11. Regrets the fact that the Sixth progress report from the Commission on economic and social cohesion does not include specific qualitative and quantitative data on the short-term and long-term impact of the financial and economic crisis in the EU regions, particularly with regard to the most significant economic and social indicators; therefore calls on the Commission to present a special report/study on the effects of the financial and economic crisis in the EU regions, in particular the Objective 2 regions and phasing-out regions, as well as on a possible widening or narrowing of regional disparities in the context of the crisis; notes that those evaluations must be carried out without delay in order to be able to counter undesirable developments and that they can be used as the basis for a proposal on the continuation of Objective 2 in those areas where it can provide added value regarding national funds;

Calls for the upgrading of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a drastic reduction in the number of its members and reinforcement of its decision-making powers in order to transform this body into the equivalent of the Security Council in areas dealing with economic matters, finance, development, biotechnology, communication systems, ethics, and threats to the climate and the biotope; calls for the establishment of a close and permanent consultation mechanism between a reformed ECOSOC and the Bretton Woods Institutions as well as the World Trade Organisation (WTO), enabling ECOSOC effectively to assess progress on the UN development agenda and to serve as a high-level development cooperation forum; calls for a better coordination mechanism between the various United Nations agencies operating under the aegis of ECOSOC; supports the proposed biennial high-level Development Cooperation Forum and the establishment of an ECOSOC Executive Committee;

34. is evenwel van mening dat de hervormingsvoorstellen in het RSG op sociaal-economisch vlak achterblijven bij hetgeen daadwerkelijk nodig is voor een orgaan dat uit de belangrijkste ontwikkelde en ontwikkelingslanden is samengesteld voor het aanpakken van de kritieke interconnecties tussen handel, de financiële wereld, het milieu en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling; steunt ten volle, als eerste stap, het voorstel in het RGHN tot omvorming van de G20, waarvan de EU een institutioneel lid is en het Internationaal Monetair Fonds en de Wereldbank ex officio leden zijn, in een groep van leiders, met regelmatige participatie van de WTO, het IMF, de secretaris-generaal van de VN, de voorzitter van de Sociaal-Economische Raad en de hoge commissaris voor de mensenrechten;
34. Considers, however, that the reform proposals put forward by the RSG in the socio-economic field remain largely below actual needs for a body that brings together the key developed and developing countries to address the critical interlinkages between trade, finance, the environment and economic and social development; fully supports as a first step the RHP proposal to transform the G20 group, of which the European Union is an institutional member and the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank are ex-officio members, into a leaders" group with regular attendance by the WTO, the UN Secretary-General, the President of ECOSOC and the High Commissioner for Human Rights;

Sinds 1995 wordt ieder jaar een bijeenkomst van vertegenwoordigers van de Sociaal-Economische Raden (of daarmee vergelijkbare instellingen) van de EU-lidstaten en de mediterrane derde landen gehouden. Deze bijeenkomsten hebben tot doel de sociaal-economische kringen in de betrokken landen een beter inzicht te geven in de diverse aspecten van het Euro-mediterrane partnerschap en in de sociaal-economische situatie in de verschillende delen van de Euro-mediterrane regio.

Al sinds jaar en dag vervult het Economisch en Sociaal Comité een schakelfunctie tussen de sociaal-economische kringen van de Europese Unie en die van de ACS-landen. Van 13 tot en met 15 september is het eens te meer als gastheer opgetreden voor de talrijke afgevaardigden van de sociaal-economische kringen van de EU-lidstaten en de ACS-landen, die in het gebouw van het ESC hun 22e conferentie hebben gehouden.
As part of its long involvement in bringing together representatives of economic and social interest groups from the ACP states and EU countries, the European Economic and Social Committee held the 22 meeting of ACP-EU economic and social interest groups at the ESC building in Brussels on 13-15 September 2000.

Op 16 en 17 maart jl. heeft het Economisch en Sociaal Comité van de Europese Gemeenschappen (ESC) in Lissabon met de Portugese Sociaal-Economische Raad van gedachten gewisseld over zijn bijdrage aan de Top van Lissabon (23 en 24 maart a.s.), gewijd aan het thema "Werkgelegenheid, economische hervorming en sociale samenhang - Naar een Europa van innovatie en kennis".
On 16 and 17 March in Lisbon, the European Economic and Social Committee (ESC) discussed with the Portuguese Economic and Social Council the ESC's contribution to the Lisbon summit on 23 and 24 March, on the subject of Employment, Economic Reform and Social Cohesion - Towards a Europe of Innovation and Knowledge.

Op te merken valt dat economisch en sociaal onderzoek in alle andere specifieke programma's zal worden verricht, in de vorm van bij voorbeeld studies naar sociaal-economische effecten, sociaal-economische analyses van de overdracht van de resultaten van OTO of opleiding-mobiliteit van onderzoekers in de economische en sociale wetenschappen.
It should be noted that economic and social research will be conducted under all the other specific programmes, e.g. through socio-economic impact studies, socio-economic analyses of the transfer of RTD results or the training and mobility of economic and social science researchers.
