TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

16. Stresses the urgent need for a political solution to the conflict in Syria; maintains that a sustainable solution requires an inclusive Syrian-led political process leading to a transition, based on the Geneva Communiqué of 30 June 2012 and in line with relevant UNSC Resolutions in order to maintain the country’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity; welcomes the Syrian National Coalition’s effort in broadening its membership and engaging with other opposition groups, including through recent engagement with the National Coordination Committee to set out the opposition’s vision for political transition; supports the efforts of UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura to end the armed conflicts and re-launch the political dialogue; stresses the importance to safeguard and support the democratic Syrian opposition; recalls the necessity of accountability for the crimes against humanity, war crimes and gross human rights violations perpetrated by Bashar Al-Assad’s regime during the conflict;

B. whereas delegations representing the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Syrian National Coalition (National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces – SOC) met for eight days; whereas other opposition and rebel groups refused to participate in the talks; whereas representatives of over 40 countries accompanied the talks; whereas all regional players are important in order to achieve a solution; whereas Iran was invited by the UN Secretary-General, but then wrongly disinvited following US objections;

5. uit zijn bezorgdheid over de toename van de betrokkenheid van extremistische islamitische groeperingen en buitenlanders bij het conflict in Syrië, het toegenomen religieus en etnisch gemotiveerde geweld in het land en de voortdurende versplintering en interne verdeeldheid van de oppositie; blijft de Nationale Coalitie van Syrische revolutionaire en oppositiekrachten aanmoedigen om een sterker verenigd, op integratie gericht en georganiseerd oppositiefront tot stand te brengen, en verzoekt in dit verband opnieuw om verdere steun van de EU voor deze coalitie;

Expresses its concern at the increasing involvement of extremist Islamist groups and foreign individuals in the conflict in Syria, the rise of religiously and ethnically motivated violence in the country, and the continued fragmentation and internal divisions within the opposition; continues to encourage the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces to create a more united, inclusive and organised opposition front internally and externally, and calls again for further EU support to the Coalition in this regard;

In aansluiting op de vergadering van de Groep "Vrienden van het Syrische volk" in Marrakesh en de internationale conferentie van 28 januari in Parijs zal de EU haar inzet tot versterking van haar steun aan de nationale coalitie van Syrische revolutionaire en oppositiekrachten, onder meer aan de technische structuren ervan, voortzetten.
4. Following up the Marrakesh meeting of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People and the international conference held in Paris on January 28, the EU will continue its engagement in strengthening its support to the National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, including its technical structures.
