Het meest markante feit in de politieke actualiteit is ongetwijfeld dat op 7 en 21 april jl. in Hongarije parlementsverkiezingen hebben plaatsgevonden, waarbij de socialistische partij (MSzP), die in een coalitie is verenigd met de liberale partij (SzDSz), de overwinning heeft behaald met 51,3% van de stemmen, waardoor zij in het parlement over 198 zetels beschikken, terwijl de partij van de heer Orban (FIDESz) en haar bondgenoot, het Hongaars Democratisch Forum (MDF), 48,7% van de stemmen en 188 zetels behaalden.
The most significant aspect of the current political situation is, without doubt, the holding of elections to the legislature on 7 and 21 April, which resulted in a victory for the Socialist Party (MSzP) in coalition with the Liberals (SzDSz). The coalition gained 51.3 % of the vote, securing 198 seats in Parliament, compared with 48.7 % of the vote or 188 seats for Mr Orban's FIDESz party and its coalition partner, the Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF).
