TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

In de resolutie van het Europees Parlement van 2 april 2009 over Europees geweten en totalitarisme en in de conclusies van de Raad van 9-10 juni 2011 over de herinnering aan de misdaden van totalitaire regimes in Europa wordt benadrukt dat het belangrijk is om de herinnering aan het verleden levend te houden als middel om het verleden te verwerken en aan de toekomst te bouwen, en wordt gewezen op de waardevolle rol van de Unie bij het vergemakkelijken, delen en bevorderen van de collectieve herinnering aan deze misdaden.
The European Parliament resolution of 2 April 2009 on European conscience and totalitarianism and the Council Conclusions of 9-10 June 2011 on the memory of the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes in Europe underline the importance of keeping the memories of the past alive as a means of moving beyond the past and building the future, and highlight the value of the Union's role in facilitating, sharing and promoting the collective memory of these crimes.

I. overwegende dat de Europese integratie van begin af aan een reactie vormde op niet alleen het leed dat door de twee wereldoorlogen werd aangericht en de nazi-tirannie die tot de holocaust leidde, maar ook op de expansie van het totalitarisme en de ondemocratische communistische regimes in Midden- en Oost-Europa, en tevens een middel was om de grote verdeeldheid en vijandschap in Europa door samenwerking en integratie te overbruggen en om de oorlog te beëindigen en de democratie in Europa veilig te stellen,
I. whereas from the outset European integration has been a response to the suffering inflicted by two world wars and the Nazi tyranny that led to the Holocaust and to the expansion of totalitarian and undemocratic Communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as a way of overcoming deep divisions and hostility in Europe through cooperation and integration and of ending war and securing democracy in Europe,

13. verzoekt om oprichting van een Platform Europese nagedachtenis en Europees geweten, dat steun moet bieden voor de vorming van netwerken en de samenwerking tussen nationale onderzoeksinstituten die zich specialiseren in de geschiedenis van het totalitarisme, en voor het opzetten van een Europees documentatiecentrum/herdenkingsmonument voor de slachtoffers van alle totalitaire regimes;

Calls for the establishment of a Platform of European Memory and Conscience to provide support for networking and cooperation among national research institutes specialising in the subject of totalitarian history, and for the creation of a pan-European documentation centre/memorial for the victims of all totalitarian regimes;
