Tegen de fungerend voorzitter van de Raad zou ik willen zeggen dat hij succesvol is geweest en dat hij - met name tijdens de laatste gesprekken - het ergste heeft weten te voorkomen, namelijk een soort twistgesprek tussen tapijthandelaars, terwijl wij in feite voor een historische gebeurtenis stonden.
I would like to say to the President-in-Office of the Council that he has certainly succeeded and that he has avoided the worst possible situation, particularly in the latest exchanges, in other words endless haggling, when we are in fact facing an historic occasion.
