1. Voor de resterende duur van de zittingsperiode 2009-2014 vanaf de datum van inwerkingtreding van dit artikel, en in afwijking van de artikelen 189, tweede alinea, en 190, lid 2, van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap en van de artikelen 107, tweede alinea, en 108, lid 2, van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap voor Atoomenergie, die van kracht waren ten tijde van de verkiezingen voor het Europees Parlement van juni 2009, en in afwijking van het aantal zetels waarin is voorzien in artikel 14, lid 2, eerste alinea, van het Verdrag betreffende de Europese Unie, worden de volgende 18 zetels toegevoegd aan de huidige 736 zetels, waardoor het totaal aantal leden van het Europees Parlement tijdelijk op 754 wordt gebracht tot het einde van de zittingsperiode 2009-2014:

For the period of the 2009-2014 parliamentary term remaining at the date of entry into force of this Article, and by way of derogation from Articles 189, second paragraph, and 190(2) of the Treaty establishing the European Community and Articles 107, second paragraph, and 108(2) of the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community, which were in force at the time of the European Parliament elections in June 2009, and by way of derogation from the number of seats provided for in the first subparagraph of Article 14(2) of the Treaty on European Union, the following 18 seats shall be added to the existing 736 seats, thus provisionally bringing the total number of members of the European Parliament to 754 until the end of the 2009-2014 parliamentary term:

Having regard to the Treaties establishing the European Communities, and in particular Article 195(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Community, Article 20d(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community and Article 107d(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community,

Having regard to the Treaties establishing the European Communities, and in particular Article 195(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Community, Article 20d(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community and Article 107d(4) of the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community,

OVERWEGENDE dat de bepalingen van Titel IV van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap alsmede de besluiten die op grond van die titel zijn aangenomen, overeenkomstig het Protocol betreffende de positie van Denemarken, dat bij het Verdrag van Amsterdam aan het Verdrag betreffende de Europese Unie en het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap is gehecht, niet van toepassing zijn op het Koninkrijk Denemarken, maar dat het voor de Zwitserse Bondsstaat en Denemarken mogelijk moet worden gemaakt in hun onderlinge betrekkingen de materiële bepalingen van deze overeenkomst toe te passen,
WHEREAS the provisions of Title IV of the Treaty establishing the European Community and the acts adopted on the basis of that Title do not apply to the Kingdom of Denmark pursuant to the Protocol on the position of Denmark annexed by the Treaty of Amsterdam to the Treaty on European Union and to the Treaty establishing the European Community, but it should be made possible for the Swiss Confederation and Denmark to apply the substantive provisions of this Agreement in their relations with each other.

"Behoudens de bepalingen houdende wijziging van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Economische Gemeenschap met het oog op de oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap, van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap voor Kolen en Staal en van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap voor Atoomenergie, en deze slotbepalingen, doet geen enkele bepaling van dit Verdrag afbreuk aan de Verdragen tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschappen, noch aan de Verdragen en akten waarbij deze Verdragen zijn gewijzigd of aangevuld".
‘Subject to the provisions amending the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community with a view to establishing the European Community, the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community and the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community, and to these final provisions, nothing in this Treaty shall affect the Treaties establishing the European Communities or the subsequent Treaties and Acts modifying or supplementing them’.

Het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap (art. 281, ex-210), het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap voor Atoomenergie (art. 184) en het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap voor Kolen en Staal (art. 6) bevatten echter expliciete bepalingen hierover, terwijl het Verdrag betreffende de Europese Unie er met geen woord over rept.
While the Treaty establishing the European Community (Article 281, ex 210), the Treaty establishing the European Atomic Energy Community (Article 184) and the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community (Article 6) contain explicit provisions to this effect, the Treaty on the European Union says nothing on the subject.

(1) Ireland has a special position in respect of matters covered by Title IV of Part Three of the Treaty establishing the European Community, as recognised in the Protocol on the position of the United Kingdom and Ireland and in the Protocol on the application of certain aspects of Article 14 of the Treaty establishing the European Community to the United Kingdom and to Ireland, annexed by the Treaty of Amsterdam to the Treaty on European Union and to the Treaty establishing the European Community.

Overwegende dat het Verenigd Koninkrijk van Groot-Brittannië en Noord-Ierland een bijzondere positie heeft met betrekking tot de aangelegenheden die onder titel IV van het derde deel van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap vallen, zoals erkend in het Protocol betreffende de positie van het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland en het Protocol betreffende de toepassing van bepaalde aspecten van artikel 14 van het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap op het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Ierland, bij het Verdrag van Amsterdam gehecht aan het Verdrag betreffende de Europese Unie en het Verdrag tot oprichting van de Europese Gemeenschap.
Whereas the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has a special position in respect of matters covered by Title IV of Part Three of the Treaty establishing the European Community, as recognised in the Protocol on the position of the United Kingdom and Ireland and in the Protocol on the application of certain aspects of Article 14 of the Treaty establishing the European Community to the United Kingdom and to Ireland, annexed by the Treaty of Amsterdam to the Treaty on European Union and to the Treaty establishing the European Community.
