In dat verband wil ik van de gelegenheid gebruik maken om de Commissie en de Raad een heel directe vraag te stellen: zijn zij het eens met – en zouden zij hun steun geven aan – een maatregel om homoseksuele stellen het recht te geven om kinderen te adopteren op dezelfde manier als heteroseksuele stellen, of zijn zij van mening dat het recht van een adoptiekind om te worden geplaatst in een heteroseksuele gezinsomgeving van het grootste belang is en dat adoptie door homoseksuele stellen daarom niet wenselijk moet worden geacht en niet toegestaan zou mogen zijn in de EU?
In this connection, I wish to take the opportunity to ask the Commission and the Council a very straight question: do they agree with – and would they support – a move to allow homosexual couples to have the right to adopt children in the same way as heterosexual couples, or would they consider that the right of an adopted child to be placed in a heterosexual family environment is of paramount importance and, therefore, that adoptions by homosexual couples should not be considered desirable and should not be allowed by law in the EU?
