Besluit (EU) 2016/611 van de Commissie van 15 april 2016 inzake het referentiedocument betreffende de beste milieubeheerpraktijk, sectorale milieuprestatie-indicatoren en criteria voor topprestaties voor de toeristische sector in het kader van Verordening (EG) nr. 1221/2009 inzake de vrijwillige deelneming van organisaties aan een communautair milieubeheer- en milieuauditsysteem (EMAS) (PB L 104 van 20.4.2016, blz. 27).
Commission Decision (EU) 2016/611 of 15 April 2016 on the reference document on best environmental management practice, sector environmental performance indicators and benchmarks of excellence for the tourism sector under Regulation (EC) No 1221/2009 on the voluntary participation by organisations in a Community eco- management and audit scheme (EMAS) (OJ L 104, 20.4.2016, p. 27).

Cyprus neemt initiatieven om het concurrentievermogen van zijn toeristische sector te versterken, door de uitvoering van een concreet actieplan ter verwezenlijking van de gekwantificeerde doelen, onder meer in de onlangs herziene toerismestrategie voor 2011-2015, en door het evalueren van de wet inzake de Organisatie voor toerisme van Cyprus, met name de artikelen die de mededinging in de toeristische sector kunnen belemmeren.
Cyprus shall take initiatives to strengthen the competitiveness of its tourism sector, by implementing a concrete action plan leading to the attainment of the quantified targets identified, inter alia, in the recently revised Tourism Strategy for 2011-2015, and by assessing Cyprus Tourism Organisation Law, namely those articles that may hamper competition in the tourism sector.

Believes that skills, experiences and best practices in the tourism sector should be shared, and therefore encourages a ‘smart specialisation approach’, whereby regions focus on their relative strengths in which they can achieve excellence; calls on the Commission and the Member States to further promote and extend the Commission’s exchange programmes, such as Leonardo, which are adapted to the needs and demands of the sector; underlines the importance of a highly skilled work force and calls for more vocational training in tourism; invites the Commission to set up a special tourism development unit in order to put forward specialised university and training programmes on sustainable European tourism; underlines the importance of swift processing of mutual recognition of diplomas and qualifications in the tourism sector across Europe in accordance with European and national rules and standards;

De Mededeling bevat geen duidelijke verwijzing naar een juridisch kader inzake consumentenrechten in de toeristische sector, noch wordt er ook maar enige verklaring in gegeven voor het onaanvaardbare uitstel van de herziening van Richtlijn 90/314/EEG van 13 juni 1990. Deze oorspronkelijk voor eind 2010 aangekondigde herziening werd in het werkprogramma van de Commissie voor begin 2011 gepland, maar tot op heden zijn er in dit verband geen concrete stappen ondernomen.
The EESC notes the absence of a clear reference to a legal framework of consumer rights in the tourism sector and the lack of any justification for the unacceptable delay in the review of Directive 90/314/EEC of 13 June 1990, originally promised for the end of 2010 and then scheduled for the beginning of 2011 in the Commission's Work Programme, and to date not yet presented.

De Alpenovereenkomst en het Protocol inzake toerisme vormen, tezamen met de overige protocollen welke op de toeristische sector van invloed kunnen zijn, een kaderinstrument om de bijdrage van de belanghebbenden op regionaal en plaatselijk niveau te stimuleren en te coördineren, zodat duurzaamheid een belangrijke factor kan worden bij de verbetering van de kwaliteit van wat het Alpengebied de toerist te bieden heeft.
The Alpine Convention and its Protocol on Tourism, together with the other Protocols that can have influence on the tourism sector, should represent a framework instrument to stimulate and coordinate the contribution of stakeholders at regional and local level in order to make sustainability a major driver in the improvement of the quality of the Alpine region tourist offer.
