TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

− (PT) Ik heb gestemd voor het verslag over de bescherming van het mariene milieu in het noordoostelijk deel van de Atlantische Oceaan met betrekking tot de opslag van kooldioxidestromen in geologische formaties. Ik ben namelijk van mening dat een regelgevingskader met richtsnoeren voor de opslag van kooldioxidestromen in geologische formaties een bijdrage levert aan de bescherming op korte en lange termijn van dat zeegebied. Daarbij geldt wel de voorwaarde dat de kooldioxide permanent in die formaties blijft opgeslagen zonder dat er belangrijke negatieve effecten ontstaan voor het mariene milieu, de menselijke gezondheid en andere legitieme gebruiksmogelijkheden van de Europese maritieme gebieden, met name die van Portugal en, meer in het bijzonder, die van de Azoren.
– (PT) I voted in favour of the report on the protection of the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic in relation to the storage of carbon dioxide streams in geological formations as I believe that the existence of a regulatory framework and guidelines on the storage of carbon dioxide streams in geological formations will contribute to the protection of the maritime area, both in the short term and the long term, provided the aim is to permanently hold the carbon dioxide in these formations, and provided that this will not have significant adverse effects on the marine environment, human health and other legitimate uses of Europe’s maritime areas, specifically those of Portugal and, in particular, the Azores.

De verdragsluitende partijen bij het OSPAR-verdrag hebben in 2007 amendementen op de bijlagen bij dat verdrag aangenomen teneinde de opslag van CO in geologische formaties onder de zeebodem toe te staan, alsmede een besluit om de milieuveilige opslag van CO-stromen in geologische formaties te waarborgen en OSPAR-richtsnoeren voor risico-evaluatie en -beheer voor dergelijke activiteiten.
The Contracting Parties to the OSPAR Convention in 2007 adopted amendments to the Annexes to the Convention to allow the storage of CO in geological formations under the seabed, a Decision to ensure environmentally safe storage of CO streams in geological formations, and OSPAR Guidelines for Risk Assessment and Management of that activity.

Geologische formaties kunnen zich duizenden kilometers ver uitstrekken. Daarom zou een verbod van opslag in een geologische formatie die de grenzen van de EU overschrijdt niet zinvol zijn.
Geological formations may extend for thousands of km. Consequently a ban on storage in a geological formation extending beyond the borders of the EU would not be helpful.
