Ik onderschrijf dat wij te maken hebben met een wereldwijde crisis en beaam dus ook dat er een nieuw Bretton Woods nodig is dat sommigen Bretton Woods II en anderen Bretton Woods III noemen. De verwijzing van president Sarkozy naar het huidige systeem doet mij overigens sterk denken aan de woorden die generaal De Gaulle sprak voordat Bretton Woods I instortte, vóór de “overgave” van Fort Knox, toen president Nixon besloot om de dollar los te koppelen van het goud.
I agree that this is a global crisis and I therefore agree with the need for a Bretton Woods that some are calling Mark II and others are calling Mark III. Certainly, President Sarkozy’s reference to the current system reminds me very much of what General de Gaulle did before the first Bretton Woods failed, before the ‘rendition’ of Fort Knox when President Nixon decided to unpeg the dollar from gold.
