Takes note of the fact that Turkey contributed to the coming into force on 1 August 2014 of the Council of Europe’s Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention); expresses concern, however, at the persistent high levels of violence against women and the lack of implementation of domestic law protections to prevent violence against women; calls on the Turkish authorities to provide sufficient shelters for the protection of women and minors who are victims of violence; recommends that the Government promote gender equality in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field; calls on the Government of Turkey, in cooperation with civil society and relevant business associations, to facilitate women entrepreneurships and reduce obstacles to women’s access to economic activities, and urges the Government of Turkey, in this regard, to set itself an ambitious target regarding women’s access to employment; points out that Turkey ranked 125th out of 142 countries in the 2014 World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap report; regrets deeply the remarks made by certain officials and government representatives about the role of women in Turkish society and stresses the importance of combating stereotypes and biases in society against women;

(2 quater) In overeenstemming met artikel 5 van de politieke verklaring die is overeengekomen ter afsluiting van de Wereldconferentie van de Verenigde Naties over vergrijzing in Madrid in 2002, is besloten opnieuw zich ertoe te verbinden alles in het werk te stellen om alle vormen van discriminatie, met inbegrip van leeftijdsdiscriminatie, uit te bannen; te erkennen dat mensen naarmate zij ouder worden, een leven moeten kunnen leiden dat gekenmerkt wordt door zelfontplooiing, gezondheid, veiligheid en actieve deelname aan het economisch, sociaal, cultureel en politiek leven van hun samenleving; de erkenning van de waardigheid van ouderen te verbeteren; en alle vormen van verwaarlozing, mishandeling en geweld uit te bannen.
(2c) In accordance with Article 5 of the Political Declaration agreed at the conclusion of the United Nations World Conference on Ageing in Madrid 2002, it was agreed to reaffirm the commitment to spare no effort in eliminating all forms of discrimination, including age discrimination; to recognise that persons, as they age, should enjoy a life of fulfilment, health, security and active participation in the economic, social, cultural and political life of their societies; to enhance the recognition of the dignity of older persons; and to eliminate all forms of neglect, abuse and violence.

(2 ter) In overeenstemming met artikel 5 van de politieke verklaring die is overeengekomen ter afsluiting van de Wereldconferentie van de Verenigde Naties over vergrijzing in Madrid in 2002, is besloten opnieuw zich ertoe te verbinden alles in het werk te stellen om alle vormen van discriminatie, met inbegrip van leeftijdsdiscriminatie, uit te bannen; te erkennen dat mensen naarmate zij ouder worden, een leven moeten kunnen leiden dat gekenmerkt wordt door zelfontplooiing, gezondheid, veiligheid en actieve deelname aan het economisch, sociaal, cultureel en politiek leven van hun samenleving; de erkenning van de waardigheid van ouderen te verbeteren; en alle vormen van verwaarlozing, mishandeling en geweld uit te bannen.

De overeenkomst treedt in werking op 1 juli 1998 en zal de politieke, economische en commerciële betrekkingen tussen de partijen regelen en de basis leggen voor hun samenwerking op sociaal, financieel, wetenschappelijk, technologisch en cultureel gebied.
The Agreement, which will come into force on 1 July 1998, will govern political, economic and trade relations between the Parties and lays the basis for cooperation in the social, financial, scientific, technological and cultural fields.
