De Europese Raad benadrukte op 14 december 2007 in de conclusies van het voorzitterschap de cruciale rol die toerisme speelt bij de totstandbrenging van groei en werkgelegenheid in de EU en drong er bij de Commissie, de lidstaten, de sector en andere belanghebbenden op aan de krachten te bundelen ter spoedige uitvoering van de agenda voor een duurzaam en concurrerend Europees toerisme.
The European Council, in its Presidency Conclusions of 14 December 2007, stressed the crucial role that tourism plays in generating growth and jobs in the Union and called on the Commission, Member States, industry and other stakeholders to join forces in the timely implementation of the Agenda for a sustainable and competitive European tourism.

De Commissie doet er goed aan om door te gaan met het Europees Forum voor Toerisme, waar alle partijen uit de sector, afgevaardigden van lidstaten en van lokale en regionale overheden en de sociale partners allerlei zaken met elkaar kunnen doorspreken. To encourage coach tours specifically for tourists on low incomes and promote tourism in the regions there is a need to re-introduce the 12-day rule for round trips by coach as pointed out by the European Parliament in paragraph 78 of its resolution of 29 November 2007 on a renewed EU Tourism Policy: Towards a stronger partnership for European Tourism (9).

Welcomes the setting up of the public-private partnership made possible by the Sustainable Tourism Group; wishes to be involved and informed of the group's work and the progress thereof with a view to the elaboration of Agenda 21 with a view to European sustainable tourism; asserts that participation by organisations from this sector in the analysis, planning, monitoring and evaluation of policy at various levels in the tourist sector must be a fundamental and guiding principle;
