12. Supports the efforts of mediator Matthew Nimetz within the UN, as envisaged by the above-mentioned UN Security Council resolutions S/RES/817 and S/RES/845 of 1993, aimed at resolving the differences that have arisen over the constitutional name of the state in order to reach final agreement between the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece as soon as possible, on the basis of his proposal of 6 October 2008 as to how the distinction between the various areas which belong to different states but have in common the fact that they are called Macedonia can be clarified internationally; realises that this proposal is viewed with hesitation by both parties; takes note of the appointment of the new negotiator for the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; requests both parties to remain committed to the talks under the auspices of the UN and to reach a compromise solution, so that the issue does not continue to represent an obstacle to the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia's membership of international organisations, as provided for in the above-mentioned Interim Accord of 1995, which is still in force; warns that unless agreement is reached quickly between the two states, this could result in a long delay in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia joining the EU; takes the view that such outstanding bilateral issues in the Balkans should not obstruct accession or take precedence over the process of European integration;

33. Welcomes the initialling of the visa facilitation and readmission agreements with the EU as a transitional step towards a mutual visa-free travel regime, and to this end calls on the Commission to set out a roadmap to increase mobility, including greater participation in life-long learning and cultural exchange projects, and on the Government of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to continue its commitment to fulfil the required European standards in the fields of justice, freedom and security; welcomes the introduction of the new passports with biometric security features by the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; takes note of the difficulties faced by the citizens of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia due to the non-recognition by one Member State of the EU of its passports; recalls that this issue has been raised and examined in detail during negotiations on the visa facilitation agreement; points out that a Joint Declaration has been adopted and annexed to the initialled text; calls on all parties concerned to act promptly on that Declaration, as soon as the conditions for its implementation are met;

12. betreurt dat sinds de toelating van de voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië tot de VN in 1993, bij welke gelegenheid ten behoeve van de internationale erkenning de voorlopige benaming "voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië" werd gebruikt, en sinds het interim-akkoord van 13 september 1995 nog geen overeenstemming is bereikt met buurstaat Griekenland; spoort de voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië en Griekenland aan om de gesprekken over deze kwestie onder auspiciën van de VN zo snel mogelijk succesvol af te ronden; roept de Raad op deze onderhandelingen te faciliteren;

Regrets that since the admission of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the UN in 1993, when in order to obtain international recognition the provisional name "the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" was employed, and since the Interim Accord of 13 September 1995 no agreement has been reached with the neighbouring country of Greece; urges the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Greece to bring talks under the aegis of the UN on this issue to a successful conclusion as soon as possible; calls on the Council to facilitate such negotiations;

Commission Regulation (EC) No 2151/2005 of 23 December 2005, laying down detailed rules for the opening and administration of the tariff quota for sugar products originating in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as provided for in the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, of the other part opened that quota from 1 January 2006.

Krachtens artikel 27, lid 2, van de op 1 januari 2006 in werking getreden Stabilisatie- en associatieovereenkomst tussen de Europese Gemeenschappen en hun lidstaten, enerzijds, en de voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië, anderzijds, worden producten van de GN-posten 1701 en 1702 van oorsprong uit de voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië binnen een jaarlijks tariefcontingent van 7 000 ton (nettogewicht) rechtenvrij in de Gemeenschap ingevoerd.
Pursuant to Article 27(2) of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, of the other part , which entered into force on 1 January 2006, the Community is to allow duty-free access for imports into the Community of products originating in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia falling within CN codes 1701 and 1702, within the limit of an annual tariff quota of 7 000 tonnes (net weight).
