Pursuant to Article 2 of Decision 2007/198/Euratom and to the Agreements in the form of an Exchange of Letters between the European Atomic Energy Community and the Swiss Confederation (i) on the application of the Agreement on the Establishment of the ITER International Fusion Energy Organization for the joint implementation of the ITER Project, the Agreement on the Privileges and Immunities of the ITER International Fusion Energy Organization for the Joint Implementation of the ITER Project and the Agreement between the European Atomic Energy Community and the Government of Japan for the joint implementation of the Broader Approach Activities in the field of fusion energy research to the territory of the Swiss Confederation and (ii) on Switzerland's membership in the European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy of 28 November 2007, Switzerland became a member of the European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy as a third State having associated its research programme to the Euratom fusion programme,

Council Decision 2007/198/Euratom (1) established the European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy (the ‘Joint Undertaking’) to provide the contribution of the European Atomic Energy Community (‘Euratom’) to the ITER International Fusion Energy Organisation and the Broader Approach Activities with Japan as well as to prepare and coordinate a programme of activities in preparation for the construction of a demonstration fusion reactor and related facilities.
