2. Communautaire handel, invoer, aanlanding, kooien voor mest- of kweekdoeleinden, verwerking, uitvoer, wederuitvoer en overlading van blauwvintonijn uit het oostelijke deel van de Atlantische Oceaan en de Middellandse Zee die is gevangen door vissersvaartuigen waarvan de vlaggenstaat hetzij niet over een quotum, een vangstbeperking of een toegewezen visserijinspanning voor blauwvintonijn uit het oostelijke deel van de Atlantische Oceaan en de Middellandse Zee beschikt in het kader van de voorwaarden van de beheers- en instandhoudingsmaatregelen van de ICCAT, hetzij zijn vangstmogelijkheden of zijn individuele quota heeft opgebruikt, zijn verboden.
2. Community trade, imports, landings, placing in cages for fattening or farming, processing, exports, re-exports and the transhipment of eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna caught by fishing vessels whose flag State does not have a quota, catch limit or allocation of fishing effort for eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna, under the terms of ICCAT management and conservation measures, or when the flag State’s fishing opportunities are exhausted, or whose individual quotas are exhausted, shall be prohibited.

At its 16th Special Meeting in November 2008, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) adopted Recommendation 08-05 to establish a new recovery plan for bluefin tuna in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean ending in 2022 and replacing the recovery plan adopted in 2006.

– (ES) Mr President, the proposal for a Council regulation concerning a multi-annual recovery plan for bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean puts into practice the binding decision adopted by consensus by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) at its annual meeting held in November 2008.

– (PT) Mr President, Commissioner, I also want to congratulate our rapporteur, Mr Braghetto, on the excellent work he has presented, and I would like to begin by saying that the most striking example of the inability of the current common fisheries policy to ensure the sustainability of this activity is the situation we are now facing with bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and in the Mediterranean in particular.
