TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

De CCSBT wijzigde op haar 20e vergadering in oktober 2013 de resolutie inzake de Uitgebreide Commissie teneinde REIO's die zulks wensen, in staat te stellen lid te worden van de Uitgebreide Commissie (tot dan toe konden REIO's daarin alleen de status van samenwerkend niet-lid hebben). Het verwerven van de status van gewoon lid geschiedt middels een briefwisseling waarbij de aanvrager ten overstaan van de CCSBT de vaste verbintenis aangaat om de bepalingen van het CCSBT-verdrag na te leven en de besluiten van de Uitgebreide Commissie van de CCSBT na te komen.
During its 20th meeting in October 2013, the CCSBT amended the Resolution governing the Extended Commission to allow REIOs that so wished to become members (as opposed to cooperating non-members, the only option hitherto available) through the Exchange of Letters procedure in which the applicant is required to give the CCSBT a firm commitment to respect the terms of the Convention and comply with decisions of the CCSBT Extended Commission.

The CCSBT Convention is only open to individual countries, thereby excluding regional economic integration organisations (REIOs) such as the EU.

De voornaamste kenmerken van deze overeenkomst zijn : - beide partijen kennen elkaar over en weer de voordelen van de meestbegunstigingsclausule van de GATT toe; - de bij deze overeenkomst opgerichte gemengde Commissie gaat na hoe het handelsverkeer tussen de beide partijen kan worden geïntensiveerd, met name door het treffen van handelsbevorderende maatregelen; - zij stimuleert ook de contacten tussen het bedrijfsleven in beide reio's, in het kader van een ruimere economische samenwerking, die voordelig is voor beide partijen; - in de preambule uiten beide partijen de wens om tot beter uitgebalanceerde bilaterale handelsbetrekkingen te komen.
The main features of the agreement are: - the two parties grant each other GATT most-favoured status; - the Joint Committee established under the agreement studies opportunities for increasing trade between the parties, in particular through the adoption of trade promotion measures; - the Joint Committee also encourages contacts between firms in the two regions as part of broader economic cooperation of benefit to the two parties; - in the preamble, the two parties expressed the wish to establish a better balance in bilateral trade.
