De rapporteur verdiept zich tevens in het duurzaamheidsvraagstuk aan de hand van enkele belangrijke thema's, zoals het geleidelijk verminderen van het te sterk seizoengebonden karakter, de ontwikkeling van een gediversifieerd, duurzaam en voor iedereen toegankelijk toeristisch aanbod, de versterking van activiteiten als culturele en religieuze routes en van netwerken als NECsTOUR en EDEN, en de valorisatie van grote Europese evenementen als gelegenheid om "bestemming Europa" te promoten.
The rapporteur also develops further the subject of sustainability by including it in several important themes, such as doing away with a seasonal structure that is too rigid, making tourism more diverse, sustainable and accessible to all, stepping up experience on the cultural and religious tourism routes and in networks such as NECsTOUR and EDEN, and using major European events as occasions to promote ‘Europe as a destination’.
