P. overwegende dat PPP's zijn gebruikt in het kader van de structuurfondsen, uitbreiding, de trans-Europese netwerken, gezamenlijke technologie-initiatieven, Europa 2020, O&O (fabrieken van de toekomst, energie-efficiënte gebouwen, het initiatief voor groene voertuigen, de duurzame procesindustrie, fotonica, robottechnologie, krachtige computers en 5G-netwerken), e-leren, onderzoeksprojecten met universiteiten en andere programma's op het gebied van gezondheid (zoals het initiatief innovatieve geneesmiddelen); overwegende dat de Europese Investeringsbank en het Europees expertisecentrum op het gebied van PPP's projecten in de EU, buurlanden en daarbuiten hebben uitgevoerd; overwegende dat de EU ook heeft bijgedragen via het Wereldfonds voor energie-efficiëntie en hernieuwbare energie; overwegende dat het Europees Fonds voor strategische investeringen tot doel heeft een aantal PPP's in de EU te steunen, waaraan ondernemingen van handelspartners kunnen deelnemen;
P. whereas PPPs have been used in the context of the Structural Funds, enlargement, the trans‑European networks, Joint Technology Initiatives, Europe 2020, R&D (factories for the future, energy‑efficient buildings, the green vehicles initiative, the sustainable process industry, photonics, robotics, high-performing computing, and 5G networks), e-learning, research projects with universities and other programmes in the health field (such as the innovative medicines initiative); whereas the European Investment Bank and the European PPP Expertise Centre have carried out projects in the EU, its neighbourhood and beyond; whereas the EU has also contributed through the Global Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund; whereas the European Fund for Strategic Investments intends to support a number of PPPs in the EU, in which companies from trading partners may participate;

Vervolgens moeten de reservoirs grondig worden gereinigd om alle producten te verwijderen die ontvlambare of giftige gassen kunnen afgeven. This long and costly procedure could soon be reduced thanks to robotic technology, thus reducing the exposure of personnel to potentially hazardous conditions, saving the industry time and resources, as well as opening up new markets for the European robotics industry and allowing for the creation of new jobs in robotics manufacturing and maintenance.

40. betreurt het dat de nationale begrotingen voor defensieonderzoek verminderen en dat de financiering ervan veelal is gefragmenteerd langs nationale lijnen; wijst erop dat de EU een aanzienlijke meerwaarde kan brengen via het Europees samenwerkingsverband en grotere synergieën tussen defensie- en civieleveiligheidsonderzoek; benadrukt in het bijzonder dat er moet worden gefocust op investeringen in cruciale ontsluitende technologie zoals robottechnologie en nano- en micro-elektronica, en dat ervoor moet worden gezorgd dat de op deze gebieden bestede EU-middelen ook ten goede komen van de noden van defensie;
40. Deplores the declining national budgets for defence research and the fact that it is mostly fragmented along national lines; points out the potential of the EU to bring substantial added value through the European Framework Cooperation and greater synergies between defence and civilian security research; highlights in particular the need to focus on investments in key enabling technologies such as robotics, nano- and microelectronics, and to make sure that EU funds spent in these areas benefit also the needs of defence;
