TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE

O. overwegende dat de SVEU voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus een belangrijke rol speelt bij vreedzame conflictoplossing in de regio;

Het meest duidelijke en concrete teken voor een grotere aanwezigheid van de EU in de regio was de benoeming van ambassadeur Heikki Talvitie als eerste speciale vertegenwoordiger van de EU (SVEU) voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus in juli 2003.
The clearest and most specific sign of this move towards a greater presence by the EU in the region was the appointment of Ambassador Heikki Talvitie as the first EU Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus in July 2003.

Tegelijkertijd werd het mandaat van de SVEU voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus uitgebreid, onder andere met betrekking tot kwesties inzake conflictoplossing.
At the same time, the mandate of the EUSR for the South Caucasus was extended, including with regard to issues of conflict resolution.

4. De Commissie houdt, in nauwe samenwerking met de SVEU voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus, nauw contact met de OVSE-missie naar Georgië om het effect van de EU-bijdrage te volgen en te evalueren.
4. The Commission, in close cooperation with the EUSR for South Caucasus, shall liaise closely with the OSCE Mission to Georgia in order to monitor and evaluate the impact of the EU contribution.

Ingevolge dit gemeenschappelijk optreden is de SVEU voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus onder andere gemandateerd om bij te dragen tot het voorkomen van conflicten, bijstand te verlenen bij het oplossen van conflicten, alsmede om de dialoog van de Europese Unie met de belangrijkste betrokkenen over de regio te intensiveren,
Pursuant to this Joint Action, the mandate of the EUSR for the South Caucasus should be, inter alia, to contribute to the prevention of conflicts, to assist in conflict resolution and to intensify the European Union’s dialogue with the main interested actors concerning the region,

Daartoe gaat de SVEU voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus in samenwerking met de Commissie na of verdere steun aan het proces voor een regeling in Georgië/Zuid-Ossetië nodig is en doet hij, waar nodig, aanbevelingen aan de Raad.
To that end, the EUSR for the South Caucasus, in association with the Commission, shall assess the need for further support to the settlement process in Georgia/South Ossetia and make recommendations to the Council, as appropriate.

In het kader van dit gemeenschappelijk optreden is een speciale rol weggelegd voor de SVEU voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus.
That Joint Action foresees a specific role for the EUSR for the South Caucasus.

Op 8 december 2003 heeft de Raad Gemeenschappelijk Optreden 2003/872/GBVB (1) aangenomen houdende wijziging en verlenging tot 30 juni 2004 van het mandaat van de speciale vertegenwoordiger van de Europese Unie (SVEU) voor de zuidelijke Kaukasus.
On 8 December 2003 the Council adopted Joint Action 2003/872/CFSP (1) amending and extending until 30 June 2004 the mandate of the Special Representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus (EUSR).
