The Council considers that the development of the information society offers new opportunities and presents new challenges for multilingualism and linguistic diversity.

12. De Raad verzoekt de Commissie om een groep van door de Lid-Staten als hun vertegenwoordigers aangewezen personen in te stellen, die, onverminderd de werkzaamheden van de bestaande comités en samen met deze comités, de inachtneming van taalverscheidenheid en de bevordering van taalpluralisme in het beleid en de acties van de Unie in het oog dient te houden, onder eerbiediging van het nationale beleid van elke Lid-Staat. 13. Voorts herinnert de Raad eraan hoeveel belang hij hecht aan de gelijkheid van de officiële talen en de werktalen van de Instellingen van de Unie, namelijk Duits, Frans, Italiaans, Nederlands, Engels, Deens, Grieks, Spaans, Portugees, Fins en Zweeds, overeenkomstig Verordening nr. 1/58, zoals gewijzigd, tot regeling van het taalgebruik van toepassing op de Instellingen van de Europese Unie.
12. The Council asks the Commission to set up a working party of representatives of the Member States, appointed by the Member States, with responsibility for monitoring, without prejudice to the activities of the existing Committees and in liaison with them, whether linguistic diversity is being taken into account and multilingualism promoted in the Union's policies and activities, with due respect for Member States' national policies. 13. The Council would also reiterate the importance it attaches to the equality of the official languages and working languages of the Union's institutions, namely, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish, in accordance with Regulation No 1/58, as amended, determining the languages to be used by the institutions of the Union.

11. De Raad verzoekt de Commissie om, met inachtneming van de taal- verscheidenheid en het taalpluralisme, het beleid en de acties van de Gemeenschap te inventariseren en te evalueren.
11. The Council asks the Commission to make an inventory of the Community's policies and activities which take linguistic diversity and multilingualism into account, and to assess those policies and activities.

10. De Raad verzoekt de Commissie om de taalverscheidenheid en het taalpluralisme te betrekken bij het uitstippelen van het beleid en de acties van de Gemeenschap alsook bij de tenuitvoerlegging daarvan.
