Calls on the Commission to ensure that animal testing is reduced to the absolute minimum, firstly by ensuring that all relevant data is made available and considered, secondly by basing further tailor-made tests on exposure and use and thirdly by implementing, as far as possible, a step-wise non-animal testing strategy, that makes full use of computer models that predict hazards based on chemical structure (QSAR), as well as of physico-chemical tests for persistency and bioaccumulation, and cascades of in vitro tests which are recognised by the authorities, also with a view to reducing testing time and costs;
