Ik weet dat u en de verantwoordelijke commissies van het Parlement dit nauwlettend volgen, niet in het minst tijdens het werk van de door mijzelf voorgezeten werkgroep Economisch bestuur, die verschillende vergaderingen met de zeven voorzitters van de meest betrokken parlementaire commissies heeft gehouden.
I know that you, and your responsible committees, have been following this matter closely, not least during the work of the Task Force on Economic Governance which I chaired and which gave rise to meetings between myself and the seven chairs of the parliamentary committees most involved.

18. beklemtoont dat ongelijkheid alle inspanningen voor economische ontwikkeling en armoedebestrijding doorkruist; stelt nogmaals dat uitbanning van armoede, gelijkheid en duurzame ontwikkeling alleen mogelijk worden als met alle kwetsbare groepen rekening wordt gehouden en als gelijke toegang tot en duurzaam gebruik van hulpbronnen, evenals goed bestuur, worden bevorderd; vraagt de EU en de lidstaten hun steun te geven aan SDG 10, zoals door de open VN-werkgroep voorgesteld als op zichzelf staande doelstelling voor het nieuwe kader;

Considers that inequality hampers development and poverty reduction efforts; reiterates that poverty eradication, equality and sustainable development are only possible if all vulnerable groups are taken into account and if equitable access, sustainable use of resources and good governance is promoted; calls on the EU and its Member States to support SDG 10, as proposed by the UN OWG, as a stand-alone goal in the new framework;

Hiermee willen wij laten zien dat politieke verantwoordelijkheid en ambitie samen kunnen gaan. Als alternatief voor de kakofonie tussen de Commissie, de werkgroep-Van Rompuy en de tandem Merkel-Sarkozy over het economisch bestuur stellen wij een helder plan voor: wij willen een Mijnheer of Mevrouw Euro benoemen die belast wordt met de interne en externe samenhang van de keuzen die de Unie op het gebied van het economisch beleid maakt.
As an alternative to the cacophony between the Commission, the Van Rompuy working group and the Merkel-Sarkozy tandem on economic governance, we are suggesting a clear proposal: creating a Mr or Mrs Euro responsible for the internal and external consistency of the Union’s economic policy choices.

Naar mijn mening – en ik denk naar de mening van de meerderheid van dit Huis – is het goed dat de Raad hierover nadenkt in de werkgroep, maar dat kan geen vervanging zijn van het initiatiefrecht van de Commissie en de plicht van de Commissie om zo snel mogelijk met een alomvattend wetgevingsvoorstel over economisch bestuur te komen.
