Ongeveer 10 % van de vragen die het Informatie- en Adviescentrum inzake schadelijke sektarische organisaties in 2011 kreeg, ging over New Age-groepen die ideeën van de Apocalyps en het einde van de wereld verkondigen.
Environ 10% des demandes reçues en 2011 par le centre concernent des groupes New Age qui intègrent des idées d’Apocalypse et de fin du monde.

Ook al zijn er op dit moment geen concrete tekenen van gevaar of dreiging, toch volgt het centrum de activiteiten van de New Age-groepen met veel aandacht op. Op die manier wil het de risico’s bestuderen van collectieve zelfmoorden of bedreigingen voor mens en maatschappij.

Zoals reeds werd aangegeven in een document van de OESO (Biotechnology and Healthy Ageing: policy implications of new research - 2002), is het evenwel extreem moeilijk om te weten te komen of de afhankelijkheid globaal zal afnemen door de vermindering van de prevalentie van chronische ziekten (en wat zal in dat geval de omvang van die vermindering zijn?), of de afhankelijkheid zich op een meer gevorderde leeftijd zal voordoen, maar aan hetzelfde tempo als vandaag dan wel of de afhankelijkheid zal afnemen bij mensen jonger dan 65 jaar bijvoorbeeld en nadien zal toenemen door een toegenomen levensverwachting ingevolge efficiëntere behandelingen van ziekten die vroeger fataal waren op een minder gevorderde leeftijd.
Comme souligné dans un document de l'OCDE (Biotechnology and Healthy Ageing: policy implications of new research - 2002) il est toutefois extrêmement difficile de savoir si la dépendance diminuera globalement en raison de la diminution de la prévalence des maladies chroniques (et dans ce cas quelle sera l'ampleur de cette diminution?), si la dépendance apparaîtra à un âge plus avancé mais au même rythme qu'actuellement ou si la dépendance diminuera pour les personnes de moins de 65 ans par exemple, puis augmentera par la suite, en raison d'une meilleure survie consécutive à des traitements de maladies autrefois fatales à un âge moins avancé.
