De Belgische ontwikkelingssamenwerking steunt al geruime tijd de strijd tegen malaria, zowel door nationale programma's te steunen in de partnerlanden van de directe en indirecte bilaterale samenwerking, als door activiteiten te steunen om deze ziekte te bestrijden en er onderzoek naar te verrichten via internationale organisaties zoals het Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, wetenschappelijke instellingen, onder meer natuurlijk het Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde van Antwerpen, en via het speciale onderzoeks- en vormingsprogramma van de Wereldbank, UNPD, UNICEF en de WGO.
En matière de lutte contre la malaria, la coopération belge agit depuis longtemps tant par son appui aux programmes nationaux des pays partenaires de la coopération bilatérale directe et indirecte que par le soutien accordé à des activités de lutte et de recherche contre ce fléau menées par des organisations internationales, comme le Fonds mondial de lutte contre le sida, la tuberculose et la malaria (GFATM), des institutions scientifiques, comme l'Institut de médecine tropicale d'Anvers et le programme spécial de la Banque mondiale, du PNUD, de l'UNICEF et de l'OMS pour la recherche et la formation à la recherche.
