At pages 22 to 23 of chapter 12, under the heading " The Meaning of Expropriation," Professor Patterson discusses the international arbitral jurisprudence regarding expropriation, including the Valentine Petroleum and Chemical Corporation v. Agency for International Development case reported at Volume 9 of the 1970 International Law Review, at page 88, in which an American corporation was granted oil exploration and production rights in Haiti.
