rules pertaining to maternity leave, its length, remuneration and the rights and obligations of women taking maternity leave or returning from it, which in its view are also intrinsically linked to the application of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment between women and men

Dans la proposition de directive, la Commission a ajouté à la base juridique initiale de ce qui est désormais l'article 153 du traité FUE, qui concerne entre autres la santé et la sécurité des travailleurs et l'égalité entre hommes et femmes en ce qui concerne le traitement dans le travail, l'article 157, paragraphe 3, qui a trait spécialement à l'égalité de traitement entre hommes et femmes en matière d'emploi et de travail.
