Further, researcher Edward St. John, working for the national post-secondary education survey in the United States, found that every $1,000 increase in tuition fees lessened the chance that lower-income students would be able to return to their studies the next year by 16% to 19%.

For example, according to the 2002 Statistics Canada post-secondary education participation survey, we know that young Canadians are 50% more likely to go on to post-secondary education if they have savings than not.
