IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

This comprehensive peace agreement has resulted in the Security Council discussing in detail a Chapter VI mandate that will go to an observer mission in southern Sudan called UNMISUD — United Nations Mission in Sudan.

The EU remains fully engaged in supporting the preparations of the referendum, notably in close collaboration with UNMIS (United Nations Mission in Sudan).

[10] There is a separate United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) whose mandate is to “coordinate all the activities of the UN system in Sudan, to mobilize resources and support from the international community for both immediate assistance and the long-term economic development of Sudan, and to facilitate coordination with other international actors, in particular the African Union and Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), of activities in support of the transitional process established by the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (a ceasefire and peace agreement signed by the Sudanese government and various rebel groups), and to provide good offices and political support for the efforts to resolve all ongoing conflicts in Sudan”. www.unmis.org/english/mandate.htm
