With a particular focus on Latin America and working with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the AAP 2017 supports actions that seek to promote adherence to international standards on the environment and working conditions, as well as actions that promote the economic empowerment of women.

The IAEA together with the World Health Organisation, the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the International Labour Organisation, the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the Pan-American Health Organisation have revised the International Basic Safety Standards in the light of the ICRP's new Publication 103, and the Commission has informed the IAEA of its decision of 6 August 2012 to co-sponsor that document on behalf of the European Atomic Energy Community.

At the same time, they are a cultural commodity and their promotion needs to take account, on the one hand, of the public interest, such as protecting minors and safeguarding cultural diversity; on the other hand, however, they must take horizontal account of the European interest, which is to safeguard the European identity against non-European standards, especially American standards.

At sub-regional level EU cooperation has focused on providing support for regional integration.
