Despite ongoing research to find new groups of drugs to combat resistant organisms, it is uncertain if and when such drugs will be available. Therefore, antimicrobial agents must be used prudently in order to limit the further emergence and spread of resistant germs. Product development and product information must hold an important place within the strategy and the success of the actions to address antimicrobial resistance will need full support and contributions from the pharmaceutical industry as well as actions from governments.
En dépit des recherches en cours pour trouver de nouveaux groupes de médicaments permettant de combattre les organismes résistants, il est difficile de déterminer si ces médicaments seront un jour disponibles et à quelle échéance. The Commission, under its global strategy for action against antimicrobial resistance must initiate a framework proposal for Community legislation to reduce or prohibit the consumption of antimicrobial agents in other fields (veterinary medicine, animal feedingstuffs, plant health protection) and resistance genes in GMOs.
Enfin, il faut impérativement que la Commission initie, dans le cadre de sa stratégie globale de lutte contre la résistance antimicrobienne, une proposition cadre de législation communautaire visant à réduire, voire interdire, la consommation d'agents antimicrobiens dans les autres domaines (médecine vétérinaire, alimentation animale, protection phytosanitaire), et de gènes de résistance dans les OGM.
