I know it is not the time and place to get at the whole trade question, but it would be far more productive for the government to address the root of the problem than to simply say that these are WTO rules and we have to cave in, there is nothing we can do about it, and then try to cover its tracks by suggesting that the Liberals were really wrong all along prior to 1993 by suggesting that there was anything wrong to begin with in regard to the Mulroney government's decision to change our Patent Act and to add many years of patent protection for brand name drug companies.
Ce n'est ni le lieu, ni le moment d'aborder toute la question du commerce, mais il serait bien plus productif que le gouvernement s'attaque à la cause profonde du problème, au lieu de dire que ce sont les règles de l'OMC, que nous devons nous y plier et que nous ne pouvons rien faire, quitte à couvrir ses traces en prétendant que les libéraux avaient tort, avant 1993, en disant qu'il y avait quelque chose qui n'allait pas dans la décision du gouvernement Mulroney de modifier notre Loi sur les brevets et d'ajouter de nombreuses années à la durée des brevets exclusifs des fabricants de médicaments de marque.
