The development of ocean energy has been highlighted in the recent Commission Communication entitled "Action Plan for the Atlantic Ocean area"[15] which encouraged national and regional governments to consider how they could use EU structural and investment funds as well as research funds or European Investment Bank funding to support the development of the sector.
