31 (1) For the purposes of this section, “cod-end” means a bag-like extension that is attached to the after end of the belly of a trawl net and is used to retain the catch.

During the period of application of this Regulation, it shall be prohibited to fish for sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) in ICES divisions IVb,c, VIIa,d-k using pelagic trawls (referred to as OTM — midwater otter trawls, PTM — midwater pair trawls) with a cod end mesh size of 70 mm or greater.

5. By way of derogation from paragraph 1, vessels using a cod-end mesh size of between 70 and 119 mm whose catch in any fishing trip in the area east of 8° West of the Celtic Sea comprises at least 55 % whiting may use a square-meshed panel of a mesh size of at least 100 millimetres if they deploy bottom trawls or seines of a single mesh size equal to or larger than 100 millimetres.
