On immigration policy the Commission adopted in June 2003 a Communication on Immigration, Integration and Employment, responding to the Tampere European Council's request to develop an integration policy for third country nationals in the framework of overall EU policy on immigration.

This working session, which comes in the wake of the Commission's publication last June of its Communication on "Immigration, integration and employment", will allow there to be an exchange of information on and experience in the integration and employment of immigrants in the European Union.

The Council took note of an oral presentation by the Commission on its recent Communication on "Immigration, Integration and Employment", where it reviews integration policies at national and Union level, examines the role of immigration in the context of an ageing population and outlines policy orientations to promote integration of immigrants.
