Should we then allow ourselves to be engulfed in a genuine currency war, started this time by the United States? Should we give in to President Bush’s decrees yet again by setting aside what remains of the European social model? Should we set aside the provisions on retirement, for example, in the face of wholesale opposition as exemplified by the large demonstrations in France and Austria?
