Remuneration of hospitals now consists of three parts: 1) a general per diem typically covering food and lodging; 2) a ward specific compensation for additional resources spent in a given hospital department; and 3) a lump-sum remuneration for specialized treatment services (such as cancer treatment and organ transplants).[18]
