IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

52. Considers it regrettable, nevertheless, that the overall situation with regard to democratic standards and respect for human rights in many of the Eastern Partnership countries has scarcely progressed, if not deteriorated; calls for the EU to play a more active and sustained role in the search for political solutions to the frozen conflicts in the Eastern Neighbourhood, in particular with a view to breaking the deadlock on South Ossetia and Abkhazia and on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and playing a full role in support of any ensuing peace agreement; encourages further progress on the question of Transnistria; stresses, furthermore, that the full development of the Eastern Partnership can only take place once the frozen conflicts have been solved in a peaceful manner, which should be a priority; calls for the EU to make full use of the tools at its disposal to mediate and to ensure that human rights are fully respected; reiterates its view that the development of relations should be conditional on a meaningful commitment to human rights, democracy and the rule of law;
52. juge néanmoins regrettable que la situation générale en matière de normes démocratiques et de respect des droits de l'homme dans bon nombre de pays du Partenariat oriental stagne voire se dégrade; demande à l'Union européenne de prendre une part plus active et durable dans la recherche de solutions politiques aux conflits gelés du voisinage oriental, afin notamment de sortir de l'impasse en Ossétie du Sud et en Abkhazie, mais aussi dans le conflit du Haut-Karabakh et de pouvoir jouer un rôle à part entière dans la mise en place d'un accord de paix en résultant; appelle de ses vœux de nouveaux progrès dans le dossier de la Transnistrie; souligne en outre que le Partenariat oriental ne pourra prendre son essor que lorsque les conflits gelés auront été réglés de manière pacifique, ce qui doit constituer un objectif prioritaire; demande à l'Union européenne de mobiliser tous les leviers de médiation dont elle dispose et de veiller à ce que les droits de l'homme soient intégralement respectés; réaffirme que le développement des relations devrait être subordonné à un attachement véritable aux droits de l'homme, à la démocratie et à l'état de droit;

Calls, therefore, for continued and strong engagement on the part of the EU in resolving the region‘s ‘frozen conflicts’, in cooperation with other important regional partners, in particular breaking the deadlock on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and playing a full role in support of any ensuing peace agreement; believes that the Transnistrian conflict can and should be solved peacefully, and asks the EU to contribute further to this process, which also presents an opportunity to test the good will of the regional partners;

Calls for stronger engagement of the EU, in cooperation with regional partners, in the resolution of the ‘frozen conflicts’ taking place on the territories of the Eastern Partnership countries, in particular breaking the deadlock on South Ossetia and Abkhazia, and on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and playing a full role in support of any ensuing peace agreement; believes that the Transnistrian question could be a good test-case for the good will of the regional partners;
