In its statement to the first Preparatory Committee for the 2005 Review Conference of the states party to the ΝΡΤ in New York on 8-19 April 2002, the ΕU repeated that universal ratification of the ΝΡΤ was vital to strengthening non-proliferation at global level and the disarmament objectives around which Union policy revolves, which is why it repeated its call on Cuba, India, Israel and Pakistan to ratify the NPT unconditionally as non-nuclear states.
