Hon. David Emerson (Minister of Industry, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, I must say to my colleagues in opposition over there that the steel industry has learned something they have not, that is, when we work with this government as the automotive industry has done, and when we collaborate with industry, with labour and with academics, we can make progress in creating a globally competitive industry.

David Emerson (ministre de l'Industrie, Lib.): Monsieur le Président, je dois dire à mes collègues de l'opposition, en face, que l'industrie de l'acier a appris une chose qu'eux n'ont pas apprise: quand on travaille avec notre gouvernement, comme l'a fait le secteur de l'automobile, et qu'on collabore avec l'industrie, les travailleurs et les chercheurs, on peut arriver à créer une industrie concurrentielle à l'échelle du monde.
