I would like to end by thanking for all their efforts during such a short period of time my fellow Members from the other political groups, Commissioner Reding and her staff, Ambassador Reinišová and representatives of the Czech and French presidencies, the Council, and not forgetting our own staff in the European Parliament, all working together so that millions of citizens can enjoy acceptable roaming tariffs this summer.
Je voudrais terminer en remerciant, pour tous leurs efforts fournis pendant un laps de temps très court, mes collègues des autres groupes politiques, la commissaire Reding et son personnel, l’ambassadeur Reinišová et les représentants des présidences tchèque et française, le Conseil, sans oublier notre personnel au Parlement européen, qui ont travaillé tous ensemble pour que des millions de citoyens puissent bénéficier cet été de tarifs d’itinérance acceptables.

Un centre de contrôle national pour la sécurité en mer, une formation accrue du personnel, sans oublier l’équipement adéquat des ports, autant de mesures que nous avons réclamées maintes fois dans cette enceinte: voilà qui me paraît important, même si je suis d’accord avec mes collègues pour demander à ce que ces dispositions soient appliquées dans un équilibre harmonieux, sans pénaliser l’activité des ports elle-même.

We should not forget that, and I would like to say that in particular to those of my fellow Members who are thinking of not voting for the Czech Republic’s accession.
Nous ne devrions pas l'oublier et je tiens plus particulièrement à le rappeler aux collègues qui envisagent de ne pas voter pour l'adhésion de la République tchèque.

I shall always treasure the memory of the time I have spent on the important work of building Europe and of the precious assistance my immediate staff have given me. I owe a debt of thanks to the Portuguese Prime Minister who originally proposed that I be appointed to the Commission; he has always honoured me with his trust and understanding in the delicate tasks involved. Nor shall I ever forget my fellow Members of the Commission, especially President Jacques Delors, whose intellectual and political authority is the leading source of inspiration for all the Commission does.
Ce souvenir n'oubliera pas l'hommage dû au Premier Ministre portugais qui a proposé ma nomination comme Commissaire et qui a toujours maintenu à mon égard sa confiance et sa compréhension pour la spécificité de cette délicate fonction, ainsi qu'à tous mes collègues du Collège et en particulier au Président Jacques Delors dont la dimension intellectuelle et politique est la première référence du travail de la Commission.
