Investigations of plasma or serum should include: glucose, total cholesterol, urea, creatinine, total protein, albumin and at least two enzymes indicative of hepatocellular effects (such as alanine aminotranferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gamma glutamyl transpeptidase and sorbitol dehydrogenase).
