If politics is a question of sacrificing individual interests for the sake of the common good, I believe that we can feel satisfied with our work on approving this report, which demonstrates that, when we work together, it is easier to make progress, and also that when a text that is balanced, and agreed amongst everybody, is presented to the governments, it is more easily accepted and therefore easier to apply.
Si la politique c’est sacrifier des intérêts individuels dans l’intérêt commun, je crois que nous pouvons être satisfaits de notre travail qui démontre que lorsque nous coopérons, il est plus facile de progresser et que lorsqu’un texte équilibré et accepté par tous est présenté aux gouvernements, il est plus facilement approuvé et, partant, plus facilement mis en œuvre.

Such a political absence, the lack of genuine political will to act and the simultaneous existence of too many discordant national voices not only damages the Union in terms of the common European project, but also disappoints the expectations of many non-Europeans who would be happy to see us acquire greater responsibility and suitable coordination between external policy and other policies.
Une telle absence politique, le manque d'une réelle volonté politique d'agir et l'existence simultanée de trop de voix nationales discordantes sont préjudiciables non seulement au projet commun européen de l'Union mais en plus, mais déçoivent également les attentes de nombreuses personnes extracommunautaires qui verraient d'un bon œil que nous ayons de plus grandes responsabilités et coordonnions de manière adéquate la politique étrangère et les autres politiques.
