RD activities performed by the business sector (BERD that includes government subsidies and the like) represent just under two thirds of total RD activities being performed in the EU (this contrasts with the actual amount of RD activities being financed by the business sector which still stands at 56.3% of the total financed EU level), while higher education accounts for one fifth and government for the remaining 14%.
