E. whereas there is increasing stigmatisation of and violence against lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex women, as well as against women perceived as lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex, by state and police forces, by the women's families, and by community members in Africa, which is a shared concern, as exemplified by the numerous statements by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay and by UNHRC Resolution A/HRC/17/19 on human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity;
E. considérant que les femmes lesbiennes, bisexuelles, transgenres et intersexuées ainsi que les femmes perçues comme lesbiennes, bisexuelles, transgenres et intersexuées sont soumises à une stigmatisation et à une violence accrues de la part des forces de l'État et des forces de police, de leur famille et des membres de leur communauté en Afrique, et qu'il ne s'agit pas d'une préoccupation isolée, comme le montrent les nombreuses déclarations du Secrétaire général des Nations unies Ban Ki Moon et du Haut Commissaire des Nations unies aux droits de l'homme Navanethem Pillay ainsi que la résolution 17/19 du Conseil des droits de l'homme des Nations unies sur les droits de l'homme, l'orientation sexuelle et l'identité de genre;

The EU recognizes the important contribution of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay, and her Office in monitoring these and other developments, and reaffirms its strong support for her work and that of her staff, while underlining the full independence and integrity of the mandate of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
3. L'UE salue l'importante contribution apportée par la Haute Commissaire des Nations unies aux droits de l'homme, Mme Navanethem Pillay, ainsi que par le Haut Commissariat, au suivi de ces évolutions, ainsi que d'autres, et réaffirme qu'elle soutient résolument son travail ainsi que celui de son équipe, tout en soulignant que le Haut Commissaire des Nations unies aux droits de l'homme exerce son mandat en toute indépendance et en toute intégrité.

The European Union welcomes the appointment by the UN General Assembly of Ms Navanethem Pillay for a second term as High Commissioner for Human Rights following the proposal by the UN Secretary-General.
