It stands as eloquent proof of the Hungarian Government’s commitment in this regard that the rapporteur, Mrs Lívia Járóka, who is the only Roma Member of the European Parliament, is one of the Hungarian delegates of the European People’s Party, and that Mr Zoltán Balog, the presenter of the case, head of the newly established State Secretariat for Inclusion, is engaged in supporting the betterment of the Roma people, who suffer from multiple disadvantages.

The Hungarian Delegation indicated that, despite some short term negative economic problems, its Government was ready to initiate the internal procedures necessary for the application of the proposed new Protocol; due to the Parliamentary procedures involved it considers 1 July 1997 as a realistic target date for the entry into force and that the rights obtained by the Hungarian exporters under the existing legislation, to claim back duties collected before the entering into force of the non-draw-back rule, shall have to be respected for a period of two years thereafter; the respect of these rights is unavoidable for legal reasons even if its economic effect is limited.

Participants include representatives from the ministries involved in market surveillance, the Hungarian customs and finance service, the national consumer protection association, the EC delegation, and the general inspectorate for consumer protection.
